Guy and Cressie Maxwell

Guy Dent Maxwell was born June 4, 1895 in Belgrade, Missouri. He was one of eight children born to John and Sarah Dent Maxwell.

Cressie Myrtle Eye was born on July 1, 1899 in Shirley, MO. to John Ace Eye and Sallie Anis Smith. She had three sisters and a brother.

Guy and Cressie were united in marriage on July 7, 1918.  Four children were born to their union – Margaret, Winfred, Clifford and Pat(sy).

Guy served his country in the United States Army during World War I and was a member of the Irondale Masonic Lodge No. 143 AF & AM.

After the war, Guy and Cressie made a living farming.  Drought, Depression and the Dust Bowl forced Guy to find work elsewhere.

Guy and Cressie were devout Christians; members of the Irondale Baptist Church.  In his deep baritone voice, Guy sometimes led worship.   The Maxwell’s donated the property on which the Baptist church was built.

Guy liked to recited poetry from memory but is best remembered for his  artistic penmanship. Many people have diplomas and wall plaques created by him.  (Click to see an example) .

Guy was a good husband and father. He was a well respected member of the community.

Cressie was  a devoted wife, mother,  and friend.
